Created using Tactics Manager ⚽️ Activity Outline Set up one flank and the penalty area, with a goal and a goalkeeper. Place the full-back with the ball in the deep, wide area, and an inside forward just ahead of him. Put a mannequin on the corner of the box, three defenders in the box, and three attackers starting on the edge of the box. The full-back starts with the ball and plays it to the inside forward, who drives at the mannequin on the corner of the box. The full-back overlaps him on the outside. Just before the inside forward reaches the mannequin, he plays the ball to the overlapping full-back, who is now in a crossing position. The full-back crosses first time, delivering early before the defence can set. The three attackers run from the edge of the box into the near post, the penalty spot and the far post, on different lines to attack the cross. The defenders in the box defend the cross. Reset and repeat, playing both flanks. Play for fifteen to twenty minutes. Progression: replace the mannequin with a live wide defender. ✅ Coaching Points The inside forward drives at the mannequin to commit the defender and create the moment to release the overlap. Release the full-back just before reaching the mannequin, so he receives in a crossing position. The full-back overlaps outside into the deep, wide crossing area. Cross first time and early, before the defence can drop and set. Quality of delivery matters: an early ball across the face of goal beats a recovering defence. Runners attack three spaces, near post, penalty spot and far post, on different lines. Time the box runs to arrive as the cross is struck, not before. 🟢 Game Relevance Trains the overlap and early cross, the core way Klopp's full-backs create from the flank. The full-back providing width frees the forward to attack from inside, stretching the defence two ways. An early delivery attacks a box that has not yet set, far more dangerous than a delayed one. Multiple runners on different lines turn a good cross into a goal. Builds the relationship between full-back and forward that unbalances a flank. The full-back as the team's crosser is central to how Klopp's teams supply the box. Download Drill
