Blocking Runs

🔧 How to set up the activity:

  • Create 10-yard lane with cones with a mini goal at the end
  • Place a rebound board / mannequin half way down the lane

âš½ Activity:

  • Coach jogs through as an attacker with the ball
  • Player moves across lane to block path
  • As player approaches the coach play a pass into the rebound board and attempts to get on the end of the rebound to score
  • Player steps in to block the run and prevent a goal
  • Progression: Coach mixes up trying to burst passed the player with a dribble vs pass to add unpredictability

✅ Coaching points:

  • Use body, not arms, to block.
  • Step into space early, don’t chase late.
  • Stay alert to ball and runner.
